Everyone needs Professional Learning and development.
The requirement to undertake professional learning and development is a key requirement of registration for Registered or Associate members of the CLD Standards Council.
The guide to the CLD Standards Council Professional Learning Process can be found on the CLD Standards Council website.
The need to keep records
Keeping a record of professional learning and development activity allows you to review and monitor achievement of goals with your mentor and carry out planning for future learning.
Also, members can be called upon, as part of registration renewal, to submit the evidence of their professional learning and development and how they have critically reflected on this with their manager and/or mentor. Keeping a record of professional learning and development and recording critical reflection and review with is therefore essential evidence.
What needs to be recorded
The information record should contain, at least :-
- Professional learning goals
- Record of Activities – date of activity, description of activity, time spent on activity
- Note of Reflection on activity covering impact and / or implementation
- Note of critical review of professional learning and development with verifier
How records can be kept
The specific mechanism for keeping the record of professional learning and development is not prescribed in the CLD Standards Council model. What is important is that Professional learning and development is planned, carried out and reviewed and that records of this are kept.
Employers may have standards and systems for recording professional learning that CLD practitioners use. Practitioners using these will NOT have to duplicate information held. However some employers systems may focus on activities undertaken and do not necessarily cover goals and review discussions, so practitioners may still need to keep an additional record of their goals and review discussions. These can be kept simply as documents or stored emails. However, members must ensure the records are in a form that can be easily shared with the CLD Standards Council at Registration Renewal if requested.
The CLD Standards Council provides the template forms below for recording professional learning and development.
CLD Standards Council is intending to provide an online service in i-develop to allow members to record the PL. It will not be mandatory for members to use the system provided by CLD Standards Council.
Template forms
Please note use of these specific forms is not mandatory.
Practitioners can choose to use these forms or employers’ PL or Performance Review systems, or their own documents, emails or apps, whatever suits their needs. As long as the records are in a form that can be easily shared with the CLD Standards Council at Registration Renewal if requested.
