Hi all, next week is Computer Science Education Week. With digital literacy arguably becoming as important as reading writing and maths, why not take the opportunity to try something a bit different with your learners.

Not technically minded? Don’t worry, there are self-led tutorials for your learners to try out - all you need to be able to do is load a website and help with a bit of basic puzzle solving.

Pick an activity from here https://code.org/learn or let learners choose their own from the self-guided tutorials including Minecraft, Star Wars game and Frozen – these lessons are recommended from ages 6 to 106 – a great opportunity for some inter-generational learning!

Alternative Activities

Various other sites are hosting Hour of Code tutorials, type “hour of code” in google to see what else is available. E.g. for older children and adults who want to try text based coding why not try an Hour of Webpages with Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/hourofcode. Trinket are also offering an introduction to Python (a language used for web and app development) as an Hour of Code - https://hourofpython.trinket.io/a-visual-introduction-to-python#/welcome/an-hour-of-code
